Saturn’s transit in Libra and India’s political scenario

August 12th, 2011
The most powerful and judgmental planet Saturn is getting ready to enter his exaltation sign Libra on November 15, 2011. Saturn is coming back to this sign after 30 years and Saturn takes this time to complete its zodiac cycle. Saturn is a great equalizer and makes sure that no injustice or cruelty is done even to the ordinary people of this world, although it is also true that no one is potent enough to save himself from injustice in the sojourn of life as injustice is a part of life. Saturn being a crusader makes sure that if injustice is done then it is only a time bound phenomenon and justice has to be brought by the end of the day.

Moonstone Gem Facts

March 29th, 2010

Despite the belief that moonstone fell from the sky, the gem comes from earth. Moonstone is a member of the orthoclase feldspar mineral family. It is a combination of potassium aluminum silicate. The stones have a crystal structure that shimmers when the light hits them. The shimmer effect is called adularescence. Moonstone jewelry is cut into a smooth cabochon shape to enhance the effect.

Moonstones are translucent with a sheen that resembles pearls and opals. The gems come in a variety of colors–white, gray, peach, pink, yellow, blue and green. Some types are completely transparent and others are colorless. Rainbow moonstone, which is an iridescent white or gray with a blue sheen in the light, is the most popular type. The higher quality moonstones have a high degree of shimmer.

Moonstone is found in Sri Lanka, Brazil, Madagascar, India, Germany, Tanzania, Mexico, Australia and the United States. The rarest forms of moonstone originate in Sri Lanka.

Moonstone Lore
Moonstone lore crosses cultures. The ancient Greeks called the gem Aphroselene in honor of the goddesses Aphrodite and Selene. The Romans claimed the goddess Diana could be seen in every moonstone. In ancient Asia, they believed the gem was a solid ray of moonlight filled with good spirits. Moonstone was revered in India as a symbol of the third eye. Europeans gazed into moonstone to invoke prophetic dreams during the Middle Ages. Moonstone has also been associated with the Archangel Haniel, whose name means Glory of God. Most goddess lore ties to the gem.

Known as talisman for protection, health and good fortune, moonstone was called the traveler’s stone, it was used for protection on journeys. Many believed that the gem calmed anxiety and promoted harmonious relationships.

Couples wore the gem to help them have a happy future without strife. It was also believed that two people could fall passionately in love if they saw each other during a full moon while one of them wore moonstone. In fact, during Victorian times, moonstone rings were often used as engagement rings.

Some stories say that one could predict the future if you placed moonstone in your mouth and gazed at a full moon. Amulets of moonstone were also hung in fruit trees to encourage an abundant harvest season.

Moonstone has always been connected with femininity and motherhood. Many believed the gems healed feminine health problems such as menstrual cramps or infertility and protected the health of pregnant women. Moonstone is also one of the birthstones for June, along with pearl and alexandrite.

Today moonstone is still connected with ancient lore. While many simply wear the moonstone for decoration, others use moonstone for talismans, healing and spiritual purposes. Moonstone gem facts include both medicinal and metaphysical uses.

Medicinal Properties
Moonstone is sometimes incorporated in healing therapy for the following health concerns:

Reduces stress or anxiety
Treats female hormone imbalance
Helps menstrual problems and relieves premenstrual syndrome
Increases fertility
Enhances libido
Prevents epileptic seizures
Cures digestive issues
Rids the body of toxins
Gets rid of a headache
Prevents sun stroke
Stops a nose bleed
Practiced for centuries, some people still use moonstone for medicinal purposes.

Moonstone

March 29th, 2010

Moonstones are a form of silicate from the feldspar group. They are examples of the commonest mineral in the earth’s crust and are found in a wide variety of rocks. Their chemical composition can be written as the general formula X(Al,Si) 4O8 in which the X may be either Calcium, Sodium, Potassium or Barium. Moonstones in particular belong to the orthoclase feldspar group, found in igneous rocks such as pegmatites and granites or in crystalline schists and veins and in particular sedimentary ore deposits. The best known moonstones are found in Switzerland, Piedmont Italy. Moonstones have a translucency and a greyish white color that looks as if you are actually viewing the Moon on a cloudy night.

According to Indian astrology, moonstones are also known as chandramanis or the semi-precious stone for Moon. People wear a moonstone to propitiate a negative Moon in the birthchart, or at times even if the Sun is found in a powerful but negative position, as it then provides a cooling effect.

Wearing a moonstone brings about peace of mind , the ability to concentrate, the fruition of love and prevention from betrayals in love and marriage The waxing and waning of the Moon, a fundamental part of the astrological system, plays an important role in the determination of our destinies. Contrary to popular belief, the lunar phases of darkness that can creep into one’s stellar chart in the form of the umbras and penumbras of rahu and ketu (Moon’s nodes) merit close attention and treatment. More on the Moon’s nodes.

The moonstone plays the same role as the pearl in gem therapy, with one major difference: it is capable of causing a great deal of cooling that may result in the wearer being exposed to health ailments associated with colds and chills. Therefore it is better to wear the moonstone only in conjunction with another stone that is capable of producing heat, or associated with stellar bodies that are heat-generating, like the planet Mars (coral) or Sun (ruby). Ideally moonstones should be worn set in silver, with a stone of minimum weight of 5 and a quarter rattis on the little finger of the left hand. [One rattika = 0.59 metric carats. – ed.]

The Hidden Magic of Gems – the subtle power of stones

March 29th, 2010

We, as human beings, receive vital rays – subtle cosmic radiation from planets that influence our attitudes, behaviour, and environment. This planetary radiation has a definite impact on our ever-changing psychological dispositions. Stones and gems, coming into direct contact with the skin, exercise an electromagnetic influence over our cells. Let us explore the ways in which our lives can be affected by the subtle power of stones. Utter the word astrogems, and be ready to be labelled as “that helpless lamb who believes in that misleading thing called astrology” by the cynic who would also deride astrology as “fated pronouncement of stars”. But surge a wee bit beyond the mist of pre-conceived notions, shed that cloak of so-called “scientific temper”, and what have you? Reasons not to blithely dismiss what were first endorsed in this holy nation: astrogems – known as jyotish gems in ancient India.

Common Sense About Gems

Have you noticed that, when our friends laugh (irrespective of whether or not we have understood the joke they are laughing at) we tend to laugh with them? However, we may not be inclined to join the laughter of a stranger sitting next to our table in a restaurant. Ever wondered why it is so? The infectious laughter occurs because of our resonant empathy (common resonance frequency) with our friends. In simpler terms, our friends are on the same wavelength as us.

Power of Prayer

Similarly, when we pray, we send out appreciation, or a request for some quality to be improved, or a situation to learn from and, at times, we are amazed at how wonderfully the universal intelligence responds. However, look at it in perspective, and things will fall in place. What are we doing when we pray? We are actually resonating with the abundance of divine love and goodwill that is readily available to everyone, and our prayers act as channels through which the love and goodwill flow to our near ones and us.

Did you know that Prince Charles speaks to plants, and that plants respond by bending and other ways? It is all a matter of flow of energy from the endearing one to the plants. Those who practice positive affirmations like chanting of mantras will testify the wonderful results of such exercises on the body, mind, and spirit.

Now, take a step further back, and let’s move on from smaller things to the huge celestial bodies. Isn’t it true that the Moon’s major phases have such strong effects that we are consciously able to experience them? Sunspots, although of minor astrological significance, have also been shown to significantly affect us. Thus, the basis of all our problems in life lies in our receptivity (resonance). As our receptivity can either be negative or positive, reactive or proactive, we must strive to become magnets that attract only the positive aspects. We must increase the positive aspect of our receptivity.

Electromagnetic Resonance and Vital Rays:

Likewise, we can benefit from the invisible influences if we received the correct blend of radiation that is helpful to our particular electromagnetic ‘signature’ (corresponding to our karmic weaknesses and strengths). The real significance of karma is not in what happens to us, but in how we react to it. And the greatest challenge of life is to react to events in a positive way. This is where gems come into action. When we wear the right kind of gems, they produce helpful electromagnetic rays.

Seven Major Chakras

March 26th, 2010

The Seven Major Chakras
The word chakra is a sanskrit word meaning wheel. It is a wheel-like spinning vortex that interpenetrates the physical body with the outer ends of each vortex forming a specific layer of the auric field. The whirling motion forms a cavity or vacuum in the center that draws in anything it encounters on its particular vibrational level. It is then processed and sent to the auric field.

The major chakras of the human body are the seven chakras that are aligned along the spinal cord.

Seconday chakras of importance are located in the palms of the hands, the soles of the feet, and at major joints in the arms and legs.
First Chakra

It is through the first chakra that energy from the earth enters the suble energy system of the body, an where we would feel our connection with the earth on which we live. It gives us a connection with the life on the planet as a whole, that we are not separate little entities.

It is the seat of the Kundalini, the coiled up serpent waiting to spring. It controls the horizontal section of the body from just below the buttocks to a point just above the sexual organs; excretion and digestion of food.

We must balance this chakra before moving on to the others. Otherwise our growth will be without roots, i.e., ungrounded

It is primarily throught this chakra that we experience the deep feelings associated with physical manifestation: sexual energy, which is also the seat of creativity and the place where we experience that childlike wonder and excitement of things around us. A sense of innocence and wonder (which we sometimes lose because of blockages put on this c. by taboos toward sexuality.

The third chakra, located by the solar plexis, has control over the solar plexis ganglia which plays an important part in our relationship to the world and to people, places, and things; our ability to connect and belong and make long term intimate associations; the love of one’s home or one’s loved as well as feelings of contentment and trust are all associated with this chakra.. (That nervous feeling at the pit of our stomach when something big is bothering you or you feel frightened-or you feel anxiety for no reason at all-often hits here. -or the chakra just above it, which radiates it down to the solar plexus. But they are more steady in the solar plexis, a more dulled feeling-pain, anger, fear, joy.

Fourth Chakra

The fourth chakra, the heart chakra, controls the physical body from the area of the collar boens to a point about 2 fingers above the solar plexis. There is a psychological gap b/t the 3rd and 4th chakra, a crossing point. Here a person meight begin to recognize that “self” is constantly changing as it adapts to a constantly shifting spectrum of possibilities in life. The heart chakra is associated with compassion, healing. Green is considered a healing color. Opening the heart chakra, according to Leadbeat, allows a person to sense energy fields and atmospheres. Yuo can also project energy to another person through this center. (My heart goes out to you-could be almost literal.) It is through the heart center and the “3rd eye” center that a person can project rays of energy out to antoehr person. The thymus gland, an actual pehysical gland located just above the heart, has an effect on the body’s immune system.

The heart center is the regulator of a person’s emotional life. If it is blocked in any way, then emotions will be distorted.

The task of this chakra is to integrate and balance the realms of spirit and mind with our physical body (matter).

This is the first level beyond 3-dimensional matter. Here we have the bridge between the dimensions of matter and the dimensions of spirit. Although we may refer to the “lower chakras” as being concerned with mankind, and the “upper chakras” as being concerned with spirituality and God, each chakra is no less imprortant than the other. For instance, the first chakra has a number of frequencies (all with the Red vibration), ranging from very low to very high. The goal is to rise above a chakra’s lower frequencies into its higher ones.

Fifth chakra- the throat. It is associated with the element Akasa -relating to things ethereal. It controls the portion of the physical body from midpoint of the nose to the collar bones. Once activated, we become conscious of our mental body(lower are physical, etheric and astral). By activating this chakra, the person becomes aware, for the first time, that the internal worlds are real worlds. The throat chakra also controls that the internal worlds are real worlds. In addition, the throat chakra controls a person’s ability to express himself or herself creatively and effectively and controls facial expression and the non-verbal. It gives a person the confidence to say no, to disagree in a reasoned way. Fear is transmuted so that one is not afraid to express himself fully in all situations.

The chakra has control over seeing, not only in the physical sense but in the mystical sense. Intuitive seeing, clairvoyance and other forms of knowing and the paranormal are part of this chakra. It controls all higher mental activities. Also, through the power of a person’s mind, he can create new realities for himself on the physical plane. The person activating the th chakra would be concerned with things beyond earthly goals, which divert many people from fulfilling their Dharma.

It’s all in your gems

March 10th, 2010

Do people tell you that you are stupid because you are wearing a gemstone suggested by some astrologer? If they do it again, then you can tell them that there is a strong mathematical logic behind astrology that can help people enhance their prospects on the personal and professional front. And other than you, there are some really powerful people at the top of their game — from Amitabh Bachchan to Vijay Mallya, who believe in this logic and wear gemstones that suit them as per their kundli (horoscope).

Numerologist and astrologers Ajai Rai Madan and Bhavikk Sangghvi give DNA the lowdown about gemstones and the influential people who wear them:

1. Ruby (Manik): Ruby is red in colour. It is a powerful stone and it stands for the Sun, the star of the solar system. Ruby helps boost leadership qualities in a person. Though, it might also make you too bossy at times. Actor Smriti Irani and businessman Anand Mahindra have been seen wearing it on their ring finger.

2. Yellow sapphire (Pukhraj): This is the stone for Jupiter. Jupiter is the planet of wealth and knowledge. Ekta Kapoor can be spotted wearing an extraordinarily large yellow sapphire on her index finger. The stone is very good for business expansion and Ekta has benefited from it enormously.

3. Blue sapphire
(Neelam): Blue Sapphire represents Saturn. Saturn is a very powerful planet and can cause you to rise or fall very rapidly. Superstar Amitabh Bachchan was facing an all-time low in his career when he was suggested to wear blue sapphire on his middle finger. Interestingly, this stone doesn’t suit everybody. For Amitabh Saturn is his lagna lord and the stone has proved very lucky for him. He wore the stone before signing up for Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) and since then, he has not looked back.

4. Emerald (Panna): Green in colour, the emerald is symbolic of Mercury and is worn on the little finger. Mercury is the lord of communication. If it suits you, then it can further your communications skills and memory power. The stone also avoids delays and brings speedy achievements. Actor Shilpa Shetty wears this stone. She achieved instant fame and recognition at a global level after wearing it.

5. Diamond (Heera): Diamond is for Venus and can help better personal life and sex drive. It can be especially beneficial for people who do no have a relationship and are looking for one. Diamond usually helps improve the standard of life in terms of luxury and fame. It’s the favourite stone among women and many wear it even without being suggested by an astrologer.

6. Coral (Moonga): Coral is red in colour and is worn on the ring finger. It is the stone for Mars. It can really help people who are timid and have problem expressing themselves in public. Otherwise the stone can help develop a strong and assertive attitude with people. Ekta Kapoor wears a coral other than the yellow sapphire.

7. Pearl (Moti): Pearl is symbolic of the Moon, representing the mind, imagination and creativity. It is suppose to have a calming effect on the wearer who may be very aggressive by nature. Gujarat’s CM Narendra Modi is most often seen wearing a pearl on his little finger.

8. Hessonite (Gomedak): It is the stone of the shadow planet Rahu. People with a weak Rahu are very indecisive and lack focus and direction in life. The stone can help them overcome this state. Actor Irfan Khan has been spotted wearing Hessonite on his middle
finger.

9. Cat’s eye (Lahsuniya): The stone is for another shadow planet Ketu. It helps remove negativity and combat stiff rivals and competition. Singer Kumar Sanu has been seen wearing the same.
